In Japan, Kṣitigarbha, known as 地蔵菩薩, (Jizō or respectfully as Ojizō-san), is one of the most beloved Bodhisattva, (菩薩 or Bosatsu), in Japanese Buddhism. Stone statues  of Ojizō-bosatsu are a common sight in Japan and are seen as healing protectors of children, travellers and the sick.
